Easy Restaurant Salsa

a bowl of mexican restaurant salsa with sliced red onion, a cut lime, a garlic clove, fresh cilantro and blue tortilla chips above the bowl of salsa

This restaurant salsa is made in 5 minutes and has the same satisfaction you get from going to the Mexican restaurant. Made in a food processor with no cooking needed, there is no excuse to not enjoy salsa and chips at home. It might not taste exactly like your favorite restaurant’s salsa. Each restaurant is different. This is my take on it.

I’m not Mexican, I’m Venezuelan but my family exclusively ate at Mexican restaurants growing up so I lived for the chips and salsa. As a kid I refused to eat food with onions, yet I would devour these salsas that clearly had raw onions in them. 👀

Ingredients

  • canned fire roasted diced tomatoes
  • cilantro
  • red onion
  • garlic
  • lime juice
  • kosher salt

The curious relationship between tomatoes and dental health…

Tomatoes help fight against gingivitis and periodontitis.

  • Tomatoes are rich in the antioxidant lycopene which is the same compound that gives them their signature red color! 🍅
  • The lycopene found in just 1 tomato a day has been found to help reduce gingivitis and periodontitis. 1,2
  • Think you can get away with eating just half of a tomato a day? Research shows that half of a tomato does not have enough lycopene to make a difference in the reduction of periodontal disease. 3

So give yourself a pat on the back if you make my restaurant salsa. Not only did you save money by not going out to eat, but you also gave your gums a little lycopene boost for the day. 🎉
